Mobile phones have brought personal communications to the majority of the world's population in the last decade. For the first time, most adults - and many children - are able to talk instantly with friends and family members who live elsewhere, to reach government offices and business contacts, and - increasingly - to access information that they need as and when they need it.
As per my opinion mobile phones effect more in social development. Because by usage of mobile phones people come close togehter. They now can share and communicate as fast as they want. Thais way of communication helps them for better understanding of eachother. Economy may be the part of this large worldwide communication, but the main development through mobile phones is social development through better and fast communication. Vipul Bharatiya

I agree with Mr. Bharatiya on the view that mobile phones especially among the BOP are a tool of social development and may indeed have minimal economic development to them. Indeed I even think that mobile telephony costs may actually substitute other basic needs to the low income user unless they are enterpreneurs. This substitution may lead to an overally lower quality of life for the affected BOP who ignores basic needs while investing his/her income on airtime. I am working on a thesis paper titled RELATIOSHIP BETWEEN MOBILE COMMUNICATION AND DISPOSABLE INCOME OF THE BOP IN KIBERA. Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated.
