Discussions > Is OER going to die by around 2017?

Just found an interesting blog post OER RIP 2017. The author's view is very narrow as Apple's new Itunes iBooks iAuthor initiative really only affcts students from the USA and there's a much bigger learner world outside the USA that publish textbooks textbooks in at least 100 different languages than English.

I hope we see the radical destruction of old methods and monopolies towards openness and more user-crafted materials (much like 3D prinetrs will destroy economies based on massive low-cost manufacturing). Textbooks are just a small (expensive) part of true learning - long live OER.
