Dear all,

The WSIS Forum organizers would like to hear your thoughts and ideas regarding the format of the WSIS Forum 2011.

Concerning the format, let me allow to recall the discussions that we had at the last Action Lines Facilitators Meeting of 14 May 2010. There were many positive feedbacks. Some people welcomed the collaboration efforts among UNESCO, ITU and UNCTAD which led the Forum to be more inclusive and open. Other stakeholders were also pleased that their requests had been reflected in the agenda. Nonetheless, there were also many voices urging the needs of reviewing the WSIS targets which established in 2005 in light of recent technological and social progress in order to make WSIS more significant in the international development agenda. There were also requests to shorten duration of the event from 4 days to 3 or 2 days:  many participants were indeed unable to assist the entire event due to the lack of resources.

I think is a good idea to shorten duration of the event!

The big theme in the WSIS 2011 should be the Telecentre movement and how it provides and speed up e-services to community... It is a strong public private partnership (PPP) for community development.

Telecentre.org is a community of people and organizations working together to improve the social and economic impact of grassroots Telecentres. Telecentre.org is a worldwide network of people and organizations committed to increasing the social and economic impact of tens of thousands of grassroots Telecentres by making Telecentres stronger and better at what they do. Telecentres are public places where people can use computers, the Internet, and other technologies, to join the knowledge society on their own terms. By investing in the networks and organizations that work with Telecentres directly, we empower people who want to use technology to promote community development; however they chose, wherever they live

Yes, me also, I think is a good idea to "cut" the duration of the event. In 2 or 3 days it will be possible to do a good job.

Best regards

At the 2010 Internet Governance Forum (IGF), they used WebEx and a Moderator to very effectively invite and involve contributions from Delegates who were unable to travel to Vilnius.

It would be excellent if we could have the same for the 2011 WSIS Forum going 1 step further with integrating social media that potential delegates already use, e.g. twitter, Facebook, Orkut, etc

Thank you Abel. I agree with enhancing remote participation. Let me recall you that there were 1600 people participated remotely in the last Forum: we should explore potential. According to the IGF Secretariat, WebEx is a Cisco product.

The experience of the IGF 2010 in Vilnius deserves to be reprinted and improved. The use of Webex by making use of social media while facilitating remote participation would allow thousands of players to be present at debates while in their offices, their homes ...
I fully agree with Abel Caine.

Hi Community, i agree with Abel too and i think we can use the social media tools to make participation more efficient and give oportunity to people couldn't join physically to follow the event. www.wiserearth.org, is the network for sustainable developement and a plateform where people and organization share information and best practiceses.
