Senior researcher and project manager at UNU-MERIT and experienced international consultant focusing on education, innovation, and training. Joined UNU-MERIT in July 2009. Worked prior to this as a consultant and technology expert. Coordinated a number of educational projects, such as InnoUniLearning (2004 – 2006), FLOSSCom (2006 – 2008), openSE (2009 – 2011) or openEd 2.0 (2009 – 2012). Research and project experience are related to the fields of open education, open source software and their communities, open educational resources and web 2.0 applications. Received a PhD from the Institute of Educational Technology at the Open University (UK) where the research work and investigations focused on new open learning systems and the coupling of technology with education. Received the doctorate for the work titled “The Emergence of Free / Open Courses - Lessons from the Open Source Movement”.
